Safaricom Sacco Society has rebranded to Qona Sacco which marks a significant milestone in Sacco’s journey of growth, innovation, and commitment to its members.
The announcement coincided with a special YouTube Premiere, watched by over 18,000 members across the globe, culminating in the unveiling of the Qona Sacco name and brand.

Safaricom Sacco said the name Qona derived from the Swahili word “kona,” meaning corner, embodies the brand’s promise: to always be “around the corner” for its members, offering support, solutions, and a sense of community,” read the statement in part.
“This aligns perfectly with Qona Sacco’s purpose of walking alongside ambitious, visionary individuals, empowering them to lead meaningful lives,” Sacco said in a statement.

Why Sacco Decided to Rebrand
George Hunja, Chairman of Qona Sacco, during his remarks, said that the rebranding is not just about a name but it’s about a renewed commitment to their members.
“Qona Sacco represents who we are today—a modern, forward-thinking financial partner ready to serve the evolving needs of our community. We grew under the wings of a giant, and now, we take flight together,” he said.
In his congratulatory address, the Commissioner of Cooperatives, Nairobi, commended Sacco for its forward-thinking approach stating that its rebranding is a testament to the dynamic nature of the cooperative movement in Kenya.
“It reflects a commitment to innovation, inclusion, and empowerment. Saccos like Qona are vital to the socio-economic fabric of our nation, providing not just financial solutions but also hope and opportunity to millions of Kenyans,” he said.

On his part, Joseph Njoroge, CEO of Qona Sacco, highlighted Sacco’s renewed vision, describing it as more than just a financial institution—it’s a community.
“We are here to empower, uplift, and support our members as they pursue their dreams. With a focus on technology, accessibility, and innovation, we are creating a financial ecosystem that caters to modern needs while staying true to our core values,” he said.
Qona Sacco Hosts Content Fest 2024
At the same time, Qona Sacco hosted Content Fest 2024, an electrifying event held at the historic Banda Street in Nairobi. The festival attracted hundreds of young creators, influencers, and content enthusiasts who gathered to celebrate creativity, collaboration, and community.
