Mike Mbuvi Sonko has petitioned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for a judicial review of its decision to disqualify him from contesting for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat in the forthcoming August general elections.
The former Nairobi governor says that IEBC’s decision to bar him from vying is un-procedural, unlawful and inconsistent.
Sonko further claims that IEBC’s decision against his candidature was actuated by bias, ill motive, malice and bad faith.
“The applicants’ impeachment proceedings have not been concluded and are currently pending before the Supreme Court,” argues Sonko
Furthermore, Mike Sonko stated that he has spent a lot of money and committed immeasurably towards the Mombasa County political campaigns, thus, barring him from vying is against his fundamental rights.
