Super Metro has clarified allegations that its buses were linked to an attempt to disrupt former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political engagements in Kirinyaga County.
The controversy emerged on August 23, after several Super Metro buses were spotted in the county as Gachagua held a series of political meetings.
In a social media post dated August 23, Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina directly addressed Super Metro, claiming that the company had transported people to Kirinyaga to interfere with Gachagua’s political activities.
She further warned that organizers and facilitators could be held accountable if violence occurred.
“Super Metro! I see you have transported Kasongo’s goons to Kirinyaga to wreak havoc at Riggy G’s meetings. As we legally come for the local organizers and facilitators. We shall also hold you legally culpable for aiding and abetting any violence that happens at any of the meetings today!” Njeri Maina stated.

Following the allegation by the Kirinyaga Woman Rep, Super Metro clarified that its buses were being used to transport youths for a church-organized activity.
AIC Church Ziwani Nairobi backed Super Metro’s clarification, explaining that the vehicles were traveling to Kathandeni Forest in Gichugu Constituency for a hiking activity.
According to the church, the youths were participating in a church-related outing and had no connection to the political activities taking place in the county.
“The AIC Church Ziwani Nairobi has clarified that the buses spotted in Kirinyaga were carrying secondary school boys and girls who were heading for a hike at Kathandeni Forest in Gichugu Constituency. The youths had no connection to political activities amid earlier claims that the buses were carrying people brought in to cause havoc at Rigathi Gachagua’s meetings,” a statement from Super Metro dated August 24 read.
Gachagua’s Kirinyaga engagements
The former deputy president, leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), held a public engagement in Kirinyaga to mobilize ahead of the 2027 General Election.
His program included stops at Kiangagana Shopping Center in Mukure/Kianjuri, Kiang’ombe Shopping Center in Kabare, and Rurui Shopping Center in Wamumu Ward.
During the engagements, Gachagua urged residents to support the DCP and warned against political parties that he emphasized were being created to divide the Mt Kenya vote.
He also addressed the 2027 nomination process, saying residents should be allowed to choose their preferred candidates through free and credible nominations.
Gachagua also affirmed he would support candidates who emerge through a fair process.
At the Kiang’ombe meeting in Gichugu Constituency, Gachagua also warned against the use of political goons, saying aspirants who hired groups to cause violence would face consequences within the party.
The tour came a day after Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina was attacked by a group of youths in Kerugoya.
Maina had gone to a police station to record a statement about the vandalism of a county-funded borehole when the youths allegedly confronted her.
The Kirinyaga Woman Representative sustained injuries and was later taken to Nairobi for further treatment.
Several people were charged in connection with the alleged attack.
