Another Ebola patient has succumbed to the illness in Uganda, making the total count 10.
The Uganda’s Minister of Health, Dr Jane Ruth Ocero on Wednesday October 5 announced the death of a health worker.
“I regret to announce the passing of another Health worker, Ms. Nabisubi Margaret, an anesthetic officer,” Dr. Ocero wrote on Twitter.
Ms. Nabisubi Margaret had been admitted at the Fort Portal Hospital (JMedic) in Western Uganda’s Fort Portal District.
Margaret had battled Ebola for 17 days before her condition deteriorated leading to her death.
Ms. Nabisubi who oversaw anesthesia, 58-year-old was the fourth healthcare professional to die.
Through her twitter post Dr Ocero added a condolence message to the lost health workers.
“May their souls rest in eternal peace,” Dr Ocero added in her condolence message.
One of the deceased worked as a health assistant in the Kagadi District, the other, Dr. Mohammed Ali, a Tanzanian studying in Uganda enrolled in Kampala International University’s master’s in medicine in Surgery program and a probable case of a midwife from St. Florence Clinic.
President Yoweri Museveni has ruled out a lockdown to contain the highly contagious virus.
People who are infected with Ebola do not become contagious until symptoms appear, which is after an incubation period of between two and 21 days.
Human transmission is through body fluids, with the main symptoms being fever, vomiting, bleeding, and diarrhea.
