The University of Nairobi (UoN) is among five African Universities that have signed an agreement with Qatar University (QU).
In a statement, QU said the historic agreement brings together the College of Business and Economics at QU and a number of prominent business schools across the African continent.
The agreement includes Business Schools at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, the University of the Gambia, College of Business and Economics at Addis Ababa University, Lakeside University College, Ghana, and the UoN in Kenya.
QU explained that the agreement aims to catalyze a qualitative leap in business education in Africa through enhancing curriculum development, scientific research, and strategic management.
“We are proud to collaborate on this project that promises to set new benchmarks in business education across the continent,” Professor Stephen Kiama, UoN Vice Chancellor remarked.
How UoN Will Benefit
The signing ceremony, hosted by QU, witnessed the convergence of educational leaders and dignitaries from across Africa and the Middle East.
QU President Dr. Omar Al Ansari said the agreement symbolizes a united effort towards achieving sustainable development and educational excellence globally.
“This agreement marks the beginning of a qualitative journey in cross-border and cross-cultural academic solidarity, serving as a platform to strengthen ties of communication and mutual benefit among our educational institutions,” he said.
“Supported generously by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), this initiative embodies the spirit of solidarity and underscores the importance of academic cooperation in building a dynamic framework for education, improving curricula, and enhancing research capacity.”
He stressed that the agreement would empower faculty members and students to become active contributors to their communities, opening new avenues for continuous collaboration and innovation to address global challenges.
Additionally, Ansari said QU’s partnership with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) reinforces alignment towards academic excellence and the development of high-quality education that aligns with global standards.

QFFD & AABS Officials
Director General of QFFD Khalifa Al-Kuwari said the QFFD has aimed to enhance the quality of business education in its partner countries through intellectual exchanges, capacity-building initiatives, and strategic collaboration.
He stated that QFFD’s goal is to stimulate economic growth, foster innovation, and empower individuals to realize their full potential by strengthening partnerships with organizations such as AACSB and international accreditation bodies.
“By bringing together top business schools from across Africa, we are building a foundation for continuous improvement and shared success. This ceremony is not just a formality but a celebration of shared vision and future accomplishments,” QU’s Dean of the College of Business and Economics, Prof. Rana Sobh added.

Ihsan Zakri from AACSB noted that the signing is a testament to the power of international cooperation in advancing the quality of business education worldwide.
Professor James Muranga Njihia, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences at UoN, said, “This partnership exemplifies our commitment to fostering global educational excellence and preparing our students to be leaders in a dynamically interconnected world.”
