An Uber driver has shared a viral video capturing an unusual scene at Lang’ata Cemetery after taking clients to a burial, sparking widespread discussion on social media.
According to the driver, the footage was recorded after he transported clients to a funeral. The video shows several men dressed in religious attire removing flowers from a grave where a burial had reportedly taken place two days earlier.
The men are then seen burning the flowers while performing what appear to be religious rituals.
This viral Lang’ata Cemetery video has since circulated widely online, with many users questioning the purpose of the activity while others suggested it could be part of an established religious practice.
The authenticity of the claims made in the online discussions has not been independently verified, and the individuals captured in the footage have not publicly commented on the incident.
Lang’ata Cemetery Viral Footage Sparks Debate
One social media user, Odhiambo Koggah, reacted by saying:
“I rebuked a preacher for leading innocent people to hell because those are satanic altars. The man cursed me and vowed that I would not live to see the sun set. He died, I am still alive.”
Another user, identified as Vic, offered a different perspective, stating:
“It’s normal. Some religions do not allow plastic flowers. They allow people to put the flowers and later burn them. It’s not a cult but a religion.”
A third user, Muchai Moses, questioned the practice, writing:
“Folks are strange out here. I hear that cultists would pay any price for the rope and even part of the branch a suicide victim uses to hang themselves.”
The video has continued to attract comments from social media users, with opinions divided over what the footage shows.
While some believe the actions captured are part of a legitimate religious ceremony, others have called for further explanation regarding the events at the Lang’ata Cemetery.

About the Nairobi’s Largest Public Burial Ground
Lang’ata Cemetery is Nairobi’s largest public cemetery and the city’s main burial ground. It is managed by the Nairobi County Government and is located along Lang’ata Road, about seven kilometers west of the Central Business District, opposite the main entrance to Nairobi National Park.
The cemetery occupies between 100 and 120 acres and serves residents from Nairobi and other parts of the country. It is accessed through a driveway off Lang’ata Road and is located near the Lang’ata, Woodley and Kibera neighborhoods.
Lang’ata Cemetery was opened in 1958 after City Park Cemetery reached capacity. Since then, it has remained Nairobi’s primary public cemetery, hosting burials for both ordinary citizens and prominent Kenyans.

Although the cemetery was officially declared full more than two decades ago, burials have continued because of limited burial space within the capital. Nairobi County has adopted measures such as reusing some graves and allowing more than one burial in a single grave where permitted under county by-laws.
Over the years, Lang’ata Cemetery has become the final resting place for politicians, business leaders, artists and other notable public figures, alongside thousands of ordinary Kenyans.
The cemetery maintains burial records dating back to its opening in 1958, with registers kept at the site office documenting thousands of interments carried out over the decades.
