A Member of Parliament (MP) allied to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has confirmed that the Ford Kenya Party is actively pushing for the 30 percent share President William Ruto promised them during the 2022 general elections.
Tongaren MP and Ford-Kenya Secretary General, John Chikati, revealed that the party has been pursuing its promised share in the Kenya Kwanza government. Chikati noted that while making their demands, they have considered the country’s challenging economic situation.

“We have been pushing for what was agreed upon, the 30 percent share, while keeping in mind the critical resource shortage and financial challenges the country is facing,” Chikati said.
He added that while the party cannot confirm the exact percentage it has received so far, it has secured numerous appointments in state parastatals and agencies.

“As we push forward, we are cautious not to harm the country. Although I haven’t calculated it precisely, many individuals recommended by Ford Kenya have been appointed to key positions,” he explained.

From the Coast, he highlighted Party Chairman Michael Ruhu and Hadijja Mustafa as key appointees.
Chikati acknowledged that one must be an official or key stakeholder within Ford Kenya to secure an appointment. “You must be a key stakeholder because you asked whether the party received 15 percent,” he said.
“We have many people in place. If I had known you’d ask, I would have prepared a long list for you to appreciate.”
As of October 14, the Ford Kenya website lists Wetangula as the Party leader. Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka serves as the deputy party leader, while Chikati holds the position of Secretary General.

Gachagua Attacks Wetangula & Mudavadi
Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua, defending these remarks, affirmed that President Ruto signed a shareholding agreement with Kenya Kwanza co-principals before the 2022 election.
Gachagua explained that Wetangula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi negotiated their positions in exchange for delivering 70% of the Western region’s votes for Ruto.
The DP added that both Ford Kenya and Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC) were promised 30 percent of government positions in the agreement.
“ANC will be allocated the position of Prime Cabinet Secretary within 14 days… Ford Kenya will be allocated the position of Speaker of the National Assembly. According to Article 21 of the power-sharing agreement, ANC and Ford Kenya will receive 30 percent of national government positions,” Gachagua read from the agreement.
