Thousands of students have now received their 2026 Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) placement results.
Between July and September, students must complete several important processes, including downloading admission letters, applying for government scholarships and HELB, requesting inter-institution and programme transfers if necessary, and preparing to report to their institutions.
July: Confirm Placement and Download Admission Letter
Immediately after checking your placement results on the KUCCPS Student Portal, the first task is to confirm the institution and course you have been assigned.
Students should then:
- Download or wait for their admission letter through the admitting university or college portal.
- Read all admission instructions carefully.
- Check reporting dates and registration requirements.
- Begin gathering required documents such as:
- KCSE certificate or result slip
- National ID or waiting card/Birth Certificate
- Passport-size photographs
- Copies of parents’ or guardians’ identification documents where required.
Universities begin issuing admission letters shortly after KUCCPS releases the placement results.

July–August: Apply for Government Scholarship and HELB Loan
Once the admission letter is available, students should apply immediately for financial support under the New Funding Model.
Applications include:
- Government Scholarship
- HELB Tuition Loan
- HELB Upkeep Loan
Applicants will generally be required to provide their admission details, National ID information, parent or guardian details, contact information and supporting documents requested during the application.
Students are also advised not to delay the process, as funding applications require verification and processing before disbursement.
Students applying for HELB funding for the first time will be required to provide several personal, academic and financial documents during the application process.
- A valid email address and active mobile phone number.
- KCPE and KCSE index numbers, including the year of examination.
- A recent passport-size photograph in JPEG, JPG or PNG format.
- A copy of the applicant’s National ID or Maisha Card (both sides) in PDF format.
- Valid bank account details or an active M-Pesa number registered under the applicant’s name and National ID.
- Parents’ National ID numbers and registered mobile phone numbers.
- A copy of a parent’s death certificate in PDF format, where applicable.
- A copy of the applicant’s birth certificate in PDF format for applicants who are minors.
- National ID numbers and registered mobile phone numbers of two guarantors, who may include the applicant’s parents.
- A copy of a secondary school sponsorship letter in PDF format, where applicable.
July–August: Request an Inter-Institution Transfer
Students who are dissatisfied with their placement can apply for an inter-institution transfer through the KUCCPS portal.
The process is conducted entirely online and requires approval from:
- The institution releasing the student.
- The institution admitting the student.
- KUCCPS.
Students are advised not to report to their initially assigned institution while a transfer request is still being processed.
Once the transfer is approved, the new institution issues a fresh admission letter, which should then be used when applying for HELB and the Government Scholarship if the funding application had not yet been completed.
The transfer process may take a couple of weeks depending on approvals.

August: Complete University Admission Requirements
After securing admission and funding applications, students should prepare for reporting. Requirements include a university Acceptance form, filled medical examination forms, a hostel booking form, and fee payment receipts.
Some universities also require online pre-registration before students physically report to campus. Other campuses also list requirements according to the course needs.
September: Report to Campus
Most students admitted to degree programmes through the 2026 placement cycle are expected to report to universities in late August and early September, while TVET admissions may follow different reporting schedules depending on the institution.
Before traveling to campus, students should ensure they have all requirements required by the university and programme requirements.
Once students report, the university holds freshers’ orientation programs to introduce students to academic registration, campus services, and university regulations.
