Witnesses have recounted events leading up to the accident that claimed four lives on the Nairobi-Murang’a highway on July 5.
The deceased were enroute to Kenol from Nairobi when the tragic accident occurred.
While confirming the incident, Murang’a Police Commander Mathiu Kaingi said one of the driver of one of the vehicles, was under the influence of alcohol.
He hit another car which in-turn rolled over to the other lane and hit a bus, which was at high speed.
In addition, the police commander urged drivers to observe traffic rules, emphasizing that failure to do so endangers the lives of other road users.
He also revealed that the police had launched an investigation into the accident.
“We are working hard to arrest those who were driving the car in a way that was inappropriate. I would like to urge citizens to ensure that they are observing traffic rules because when they drive badly, they endanger the lives of other road users,” he said.
Dennis Munene, an eyewitness expressed concern over the recurring accidents in the area, citing speed as the major cause.
He urged authorities to lower the speed limit noting that this particular incident was the third in almost three months.
“For almost three months there have been accidents, this is the third one. They said the speed limit is 110 km/hr., now we want it reduced to 70 or 80.
