NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has dismissed Vladimir Putin’s latest warning of war with Europe, sarcastically noting that the Russian leader prefers to look very tough with binoculars 1,000 kilometers away from the front line, rather than visit his own troops in Ukraine.
Putin made remarks yesterday, Tuesday, December 2, 2025, addressed to NATO, that saw Rutte slam him down today.
“Russia has no intention of fighting NATO but is ready if attacked,” were part of the Russian head’s remarks.
Addressing Putin’s remarks, Mark Rutte said NATO won’t be reacting to any of his shows, as each month the president has come up with a new provocation directed at the body.

He also indicated that Putin was so good at talking rather than taking practical steps to back up his words and promises, after a photo of him in binoculars watching the soldiers from a distance surfaced following the Tuesday address.
“I’m not going to respond to everything Putin says. We’ve seen him in military uniform, dressed like a soldier on the front line, but not on the front line. The day before yesterday, he was quite far from the front. So, I’m not going to react to everything,” stated Rutte.
Rutte directed that what Putin should do is to stop the war he is waging against Ukraine and not come out on NATO, his sarcastic tone underscored a growing Western confidence as Russia’s military suffers its heaviest sustained losses of the entire conflict.
Ukrainian General Staff figures now place daily Russian casualties at between 1,500 and 1,700 troops, with roughly 50,000 killed and wounded per month.
Sources show that in November alone, Moscow lost more than 400 tanks and 900 other armored vehicles, and the grueling battles around Pokrovsk and Kurakhove have yielded only marginal gains at catastrophic cost, with the whole troops effectively wiped out within days.

NATO diplomats say repeated Russian nuclear threats and warnings of direct conflict have lost their power to intimidate as Moscow’s conventional forces are all ground down.
“What matters is what we do, not what Putin says next month, and he will say something next month, and we will react the same way,” Rutte added.
The NATO chief also stressed that the alliance remains focused on accelerating weapons deliveries to Kyiv, including additional Patriot air-defense batteries, F-16 fighter jets, and the removal of remaining restrictions on long-range strikes into Russia.
Rutte’s direct slam indicates that Russia’s threats are increasingly seen in Western capitals not as strategic red lines, but as the desperate noise of a military campaign that is bleeding itself dry.
