The Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) has deactivated over 124,000 SIM cards.
Led by Director Ezra Chiloba, CAK said the move is aimed at curbing illegally registered cards in the country.
Chiloba further stated that the quarterly report covering the three months to March reveals the number of active SIM cards declined by 124, 689 to a total of 64.9 million.
‘‘The decline in SIM subscriptions is partly attributed to the ongoing SIM registration exercise during which a number of SIM cards have been deactivated,’’ Chiloba said in a report.
This, Chiloba said is also meant to curb the misuse of SIM cards for criminal purposes stating that CAK has extended the deadline for the SIM card registration by six months.
