A 29-year-old house help allegedly stole and disappeared with her employers Ksh2.2 million from her employer’s home in Nairobi.
According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers arrested the house help on Sunday, March 30.

Further, the statement indicated that the suspect was tracked down in Malava, Kakamega County, following coordinated efforts by detectives from the DCI Nairobi Regional Headquarters and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.
“Now in custody at Capitol Hill Police Station, the house help is undergoing processing as she awaits her day in court,” read a statement from DCI.

How the Nairobi House Help Stole the Cash
The incident occurred on March 16, 2025, when the employer left the house help, at home to attend to personal errands.

According to authorities, a security guard at the residential estate later called the employer, reporting that the suspect had been seen leaving with a large carrier bag.
However, when questioned, she claimed she was delivering an item for her boss.
Sensing foul play, the employer attempted to contact the suspect, but her phone was switched off.
When the employer rushed home, she discovered that Ksh2.2 million, which had been stored in her bedroom, was missing.
Consequently, it dawned on her that the house help had also disappeared without a trace.

How Police Apprehended the Suspect
Consequently, detectives launched an extensive manhunt, tracing the suspects’ movements across multiple counties.
She was finally apprehended in Malava, Kakamega County and led officers to different locations where portions of the stolen money had been hidden.
A total of Ksh1.5 million was recovered from three locations. Ksh700,000 was found in her grandmother’s house in Kapsoi, Vihiga County.
On the other hand, Ksh800,000 was recovered from her rented house in South B, Fuata Nyayo, Nairobi.
Also, detectives retrieved three gold chain links, allegedly bought using the stolen cash, from her home in Kipkaren, Uasin Gishu County.
The suspect was held at the Capitol Hill Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court, facing charges related to theft and fraudulent acquisition of property.
