Two public servants have been sent to jail for falsifying academic certificates and ordered to repay salaries received with the fake credentials.
Pauline Otieno and Lilian Ochieng, were employed in 2018 as Supplies Assistants at the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation.
Moreover, Ms Otieno was sentenced to spend two years and six months in prison or pay a fine of Ksh.228,698, whereas, Ms Ochieng was imprisoned for three years and six months or pay a fine of Ksh.271,901.
Moreover, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) reported that the duo was charged with five counts of crimes among them forgery and deceit.
“They faced the following criminal charges; forgery, providing false information to a public entity, deceiving a public entity, uttering a false document and fraudulent acquisition of public property being the cumulative salary earned on forged certificates,” read a statement by EACC.
Furthermore, Ms Otieno is alleged to have forged a procurement certificate from Mount Kenya University while Ms Ochieng is alleged to have forged both a Diploma and Certificate from the Kenya Institute of Management.

Similarly, preceding their formal employment, the two public servants had worked in the corporation for eight years as casual employees before forging academic documents to get promoted to Supplies Assistants.
