Kenyans living abroad can now register and activate a Safaricom eSIM remotely, allowing them to access mobile services without visiting a physical Safaricom shop.
According to Safaricom, Kenyans in the diaspora need the following documents to register: a passport page containing their bio details, a passport page with an immigration stamp exiting Kenya, and a scanned copy of their National ID.
However, these documents must be certified by either a Notary Public or the Kenyan Embassy.
Safaricom eSIM Requirements for Kenyans Living Abroad
Safaricom has stated that if a Safaricom eSIM is not certified and therefore white-listed, a customer should visit their shop for assistance.
However, if such happens, people living abroad need to have their details certified by a notary public or the Kenyan Embassy.
The following are requirements needed for a notary public or the Kenyan Embassy:
- A passport page containing your bio details, certified
- A passport page with an immigration stamp exiting Kenya,
- A passport page with the immigration stamp of the entry country,
- A scanned copy of your ID (both sides),

It has been stated that a Notary Public is a counsel, lawyer, or public officer who attests to or certifies writings, such as a deed, to make them authentic, and who takes affidavits, depositions, and protests of negotiable paper.
What is eSIM and its Benefits to Users?
It is an embedded SIM inside your device.
However, you don’t need to insert a physical SIM card.
An eSIM stores the data needed for your device to connect to and use the Safaricom network.
While using it, one will have more than one phone number tied to a single device without swapping SIMs, the freedom to switch operators without having to change your device when using a single-SIM device, and reduced risk of SIM Card damage since the SIM card is embedded in the phone.

Also, frequent travellers will be able to switch providers as they travel easily.
To enable eSIM while in Kenya, you will need to send an email to [email protected] or [email protected].
Once vetted, you will be required to pay for the eSIM QR code to be sent via email.
Also, a person can visit any of the Safaricom Shops to purchase the eSIM QR code at different charges depending on their service.
