Three protester died on the spot while another was pronounced dead at Makindu hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds in a standoff between GSU officers and protestors on Thursday, June 2.
The local hospital confirmed the four deaths and reported that six more people were nursing various degrees of injuries sustained during the protest.
The GSU police unit was deployed to calm protestors at Masimba along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
Angry residents blocked the road for several hours, hence cutting off the transport corridor as motorists and transporters watched helplessly.
