Cabinet Secretary for the East African Community Rebecca Miano is now an ex-officio member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
CS Miano was sworn in on Wednesday, November 2 during the Legislative Assembly sitting in Kigali, Rwanda.

Moreover, the East African Legislative Assembly membership comprises nine member states. These states include Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and DRC.
Likewise, each EAC state sends representatives to the legislative arm of the community headquartered in Arusha. Kenya is yet to elect her representatives of the Assembly but kicked off the selection process late October.
Similarly, the Democratic Republic of Congo is also yet to send legislators to EALA. Kenya and Congo have until December 20 to elect their representatives.
Nonetheless, East African Legislative Assembly plays a crucial role in the continuance of the East African Community objectives.
