Former Kisii governor James Ongwae has quit the ODM party citing “ill treatment”.
Ex-county Woman Representative Janet Ong’era has also quit the Raila Odinga led party.
The two are saying they will chart their own course which takes care of the interests of the Kisii community.
“Watch this space,” Ong’era said during a press briefing in Nairobi.
“We have today arrived at this decision having carefully taken stock of the activities preceding the last general election and more so the ill manner the party treated us and our supporters through political patronage by individuals who never had the interest of our community at heart,” said Ongwae.

Ongwae says the country is at a stage where individuals should join progressive minded leaders and parties that focus on unity and collective decision-making in the affairs that affect society.
“As the Holy Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:1, ‘there is a time and season for everything’, and for us it is time to exit,” Ongwae said.
Ongwae and Ongera were key pillars of Raila’s support base in the Gusii region.
Signs of the two quitting the orange party became clear when they met President William Ruto soon after his election was upheld by the Supreme Court.
