The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has appointed Massa Hamisi Salim as the acting Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) until a permanent replacement is made.
The police commission, through a statement released on Thursday September 29, announced Salim’s appointment.
“NPSC appoints Massa Hamisi Salim as the Director of Criminal Investigation in an acting capacity until the position is filled substantively and competitively in at least 14 days,” read the statement in part.
Salim is supposed to hold the position for 14 days, after which a new Director will be appointed.
According to their statement, NPSC made clear the qualifications required to apply for the Director of Criminal Investigations position.
“A person shall be qualified for appointment as the Director of Criminal Investigations if the person has had a distinguished career in his/her field and has knowledge and experience in criminal investigation or policing,” NPSC advertised.
Earlier in the month, the former director DCI George Kinoti resigned from the position.
Kinoti’s resignation was announced by President William Ruto during the Cabinet nominations reveal statement.
“I have also received the resignation of DCI Kinoti and directed the National Police Service to proceed with advertising that position. Meanwhile, they should get somebody to act in that position,” Ruto directed then.
In the past month other senior officials of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had also resigned, reportedly in such of greener pastures.
