IEBC Vice chairman Juliana Cherera claimed she was booed but at the same time received praises during a four-day retreat organized by the Commission in Mombasa.
The retreat was for IEBC officials, whom they had convened to assess their conduct of the August 9 elections.
Cherera, plus three other commissioners, Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi, and Justus Nyang’aya were faulted for the breaking up of the commissioners during the August polls period.
Cherera went on to talk to the media, where she claimed the boss, Wafula Chebukati was in the meeting, where he watched and took no action to stop the insults hurled toward her and the other commissioners.
“Yes, I was booed. The other commissioners were booed too. But amidst the booing, some cheered for us.”
“The chairman was in attendance and watched silently as some clusters of staff booed us and he did not raise a finger to stop them,” she added.

Chebukati in his remarks pointed out the unfortunate events and happenings that occurred because of the Commissioners’ divergent views.
“The most unfortunate incident was the false accusation by commissioners and fellow staff – under oath – that exposed innocent hardworking staff to arbitrary arrests and abductions, intimidation and harassment by security agencies and political goons, and other forms of obstructing election officials from conducting their duties.”
“These shameless attacks amounting to election offenses were perpetrated by, among others, persons regarded as national leaders in full view of the whole nation and the world at large,” Chebukati noted.
