World Digital Quality of life index 2022 report has ranked Kenya number 106 out of 117 countries in internet speed, quality, and growth.
Moreover, in terms of speed, stability and growth, Kenya’s internet is at 34 per cent worse than the global average.
Kenya’s mobile internet in comparison to South Africa is 2 times slower while broadband is 3 times slower.
However, the mobile internet speed has improved by 14 per cent (3.1Mbps) while broadband speed has grown by 8.5 per cent (1.5 Mbps) since last year.
Furthermore, the report revealed that Singapore has the fastest internet speed in the world with mobile speeds of up to 104 to 261 Mbps.
Likewise, according to the 2022 global overview report conducted by Surfshark’s Digital Quality of Life (DQL) Index, seven of the 10 highest-scoring countries are in Europe.
Kenya ranked position 93rd in terms of internet affordability.
“Residents can buy 1GB of mobile internet in Kenya for as cheap as 7 minutes 34 seconds of work per month. This is 13 times more than in South Africa,” the report read.
Similarly, out of the five fundamental digital life pillars, Kenya’s worst score is for internet quality whereas its best score is for e-infrastructure (61st).
Kenya’s e-security ranked 74th, as well as e-government, and internet affordability at 93rd position out of 117.
Furthermore, Kenya ranked 5th in Africa out of 10 participating countries. Democratic Republic of (DRC), Ethiopia, Mozambique, and Cameroon are the bottom five African countries.
