Ford Kenya party leader, Moses Wetangula and Wiper Part leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Monday took the nomination papers for the National Assembly Speaker to confirm their full interest in the seat.
The acting National Assembly clerk, Serah Kioko announced the vacancy in both the speaker and the Deputy speaker’s post in a statement posted on their social media pages on Monday. This was after the President announced that the first National Assembly sitting would be on the 13th of September 2022 at 9:00am.

A part of the post posted by on the Parliament’s social media page stated,” Persons interested in the two positions have until Wednesday 7th September at 12:30 pm to collect nomination papers and to return the completed nomination forms on the same day between 2:30 pm to 8:30 pm,”

Deputy President elect Rigathi Gachagua spoke in a church in Bungoma and confirmed Wetangula as the preferred nominee for the Speaker’s seat by the Kenya kwanza Alliance. Moses Wetangula will have to resign his senatorial seat in order to apply for the Speaker’s position.
Kalonzo Musyoka on the other hand, will probably apply for the position as a representative of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance.
More candidates interested in the speaker’s position include; Isaac Aluoch Polo, Farah Maalim, Robert Gichimu Githinji, Noah Winja and Jared Oluoch Oundo.
