Deputy President William Ruto has told the Azimio Presidential aspirant Raila Odinga not to use the Mau Forest issue to ‘incite and hoodwink’ the Maasai electorate.
Speaking in Narok on Saturday, Ruto said that the government led evictions of 2019 is no longer political fodder to be used by leaders in search of votes.
While campaigning in Narok last week Raila said it was him and President Uhuru Kenyatta who made the Mau evictions possible.
But Ruto insisted that the issue of Mau Forest evictions is a foregone one and all that is left is the fencing the critical water tower.
The DP further stated that his government will now focus on resolving the land issues in Kedong and Rose Farm which he said will ultimately be concluded.
Ruto said that the initial owners of the land property will be given back their land and the government will pay for that.
The eviction done in 2019 saw the government reclaim over 22,000 hectares of land in the area.
The Mau forest eviction made Odinga a darling of the Narok Maasai community while it drew an edge between him and the Kalenjin community.
