The country has recorded a drop in its mobile penetration in the past three months
A three-month sector report by the Communications Authority of Kenya shows a drop in mobile penetration by 2.5 percentage points to 131.4 per cent.
According to CAK,60.1 million mobile phone devices were connected to mobile networks as of 31st March 2022.
Smart phone penetration rate is at 54.6 per cent and while feature phones penetration rate is at 69.2 per cent.
Data/Internet subscriptions also grew to 46.5 million up from 46.3 million in the preceding quarter.
The number of 3G and 4G mobile broadband subscriptions stood at 12.7 million and 16.7 million respectively.
At the same time subscriptions for mobile money services grew to 36.4 million from 35.2 million .
In the said period, some Sh1.2 trillion were deposited in mobile wallets with Sh1.3 trillion used in payment of goods and services.
Payment for government services through mobile money accounted for Sh 13 million in the said period .
