President Uhuru Kenyatta is today leading the nation in celebrating the 59th Madaraka Day which will be his last while in office.
The celebrations are taking place at the newly renovated Uhuru Gardens memorial park
Sierra Leone President Juliua Bio is expected to grace the occasion on invitation of President Kenyatta
At least 30,000 Kenyans are expected to grace the event according to Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho
Kibicho said the military will take the centre stage in this year’s Madaraka Day with a lot of showcasing of what the military does best as they say goodbye to their Commander in Chief President Kenyatta.
Kibicho said that this year’s celebrations will cost taxpayers between Sh. 60 to 70 million.
President Kenyatta’s speech is expected to center on achievements the country has registered for the 10years he has been in charge
He is also expected to touch on the forthcoming August 9 elections as well as his legacy projects
The country will also be keen to hear what the head of state will say on measures taken to contain the situation of a dwindling economy and rising costs of living
