Kirinyaga Woman RepresentativeJane Njeri Maina has defended former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua against accusations of being a tribal leader.
In an interview with The Kenya Times‘s Nixon Njau, Maina dismissed the narrative as a deliberate tactic by the government to tarnish Gachagua’s reputation and undermine his influence in the Mt. Kenya region.
Additionally, she stated that the people of the mountain have already made their political decisions, and no one will change their minds, even if the Former President Uhuru Kenyatta supports President Ruto in the 2027 general election.
She emphasized that Gachagua’s leadership is rooted in unity and service to all Kenyans, not ethnic division, and accused detractors of misrepresenting his advocacy for regional interests as tribalism.
