Makau Says Azimio Members are Depressed as They Expected to Win 2022 Presidential Polls

Makau Mutua has said that Azimio la Umoja coalition members are depressed because of the ‘surprise’ outcome of the 2022 general elections.

While speaking on Wednesday, January 25 during an interview with Citizen TV, Makau Mutua explained that the Azimio coalition knew victory was theirs across all regions except the Rift Valley.

“Our folks are just depressed because they did not expect to be declared the winner. The only place that UDA could have defeated Azimio is in the Rift Valley,” the Azimio la Umoja spokesman stated.

Moreover, Communications Advisor Barrack Muluka, while responding to Makau criticized Azimio members claiming they are just traumatized and in need of therapy.

He further added that the coalition members are in denial that they lost.

“The only thing Azimio saw was victory. You don’t get into a contest believing that there can only be one result and that one result is you are going to win,” Muluka said.

In addition, Makau Mutua noted that the signs of victory for Azimio were so clear, that even United Democratic Alliance (UDA) was surprised to be announced the winners.

“If we are honest even UDA were surprised that they were declared winners as they never expected it. UDA knew and everyone knew that Azimio was going to win,” Mutua added.

Makau also stated that opinion polls and expert opinions which had been carried out a few months towards August 9, 2022, all indicated that Raila Odinga was in the lead against President William Ruto.

On August 15, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati declared William Ruto the President-elect after he defeated Raila and two other candidates in the August 9 presidential election.

Nonetheless, while addressing his supports on Monday, January 23, during the Kamukunji rally Azimio leader Raila Odinga said he will not recognize President Ruto’s ‘illegitimate’ Presidency and his government.
