Ruto Blasted for Spreading Lies, Slapped with 8 Demands

President William Ruto is a man under siege, with his Kenya Kwanza administration coming under heavy criticism, barely two years after installation.Ā The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has accused Ruto of lying to Kenyans and making false promises.

In a statement on Tuesday, November 3, 2024, the clerics said that President Rutoā€™s administration has elevated lies and falsehoods to the point that no one knows what to believe anymore.

ā€œThe Bible warns against listening to lies, as we read in Ezekiel 13: 19. The situation in our country is the direct result of our tendency, as the people of Kenya, to listen to and believe the narratives peddled by persons seeking to rise to or to hold onto political leadership. These narratives are often premised on lies and falsehoods,ā€ the statement read.

Further, the NCCK called on Kenyans not to view information from the government from a blanket perspective.

NCCK accuses Ruto’s administration of spreading lies

ā€œWe appeal to you, brothers and sisters, to be seekers of truth. Do not just believe what is said, take a step to verify if what you have been told is true,ā€ part of the statement read.

Besides accusing President’s Ruto’s administration of perpetuating a culture of lies the NCCK clerics issued various demands for the President to Adress.

One of the demands issued by NCCK is reconstitution of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The church accused the political class of delaying in the reconstitution of IEBC saying it is a major insult to the people of Kenya and an attack on who we are as a nation.

NCCK therefore urged citizens to raise their voices to demand that the Judiciary concludes the cases touching on the IEBC reconstitution within the next two weeks.

The church leaders also criticized the Executive for exerting control over Parliament. They stated that instead of representing the people, parliamentarians have become mere tools executing the Executive’s agenda. Rather than providing oversight, they have transformed into cheerleaders for policies that oppress the populace.

In light of this, the NCCK urged voters to exercise their constitutional rights by gathering signatures and initiating the recall process for Members of Parliament who are not fulfilling their responsibilities or meeting the demands of their constituents.Ā

The church also took issue with the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) cover introduced by President Ruto’s administration. It demanded that the implementation of SHIF be suspended until all the necessary structures are put in place.Ā

NCCK also called upon Kenyans to reject contributions by political leaders and their appointees knowing that most of the money given is stolen taxes.

“On our part as the church, we make it clear that all persons are free to attend worship services and give their offerings, but we will not allow this sacred religious practice to be used for self-promotion and self-marketing. We will continue propagating and applying the guidelines issued by the NCCK which requires that politicians should not be allowed to address congregations inside the church,” the church stated.

The church urged citizens to strongly oppose the proposed vaccination of animals advocated by international bodies.

Additionally, it called upon the citizens to unite in efforts to combat the increasing cases of gender-based violence.
