Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has responded to Raila Odinga’s Saturday remarks saying the President William Ruto-led government is not interested in having him on board
The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader while speaking on Saturday, October 29 in Kisumu stated that he will not give up on the fight for Kenya’s liberation and that he will not join government as other leaders leaving Azimio have done.
“Mimi vile nimesimama hapa nasema wakati wangu wa kuongea haijafika lakini itafika na mimi nimesema sitarudi nyuma…kama watu wetu wameungana pamoja nitasimama imara na sisi hauwezi tishwa ati tuungane na serikali,” he stated.
In a quick rejoinder, deputy president Gachagua while speaking at Murang’s on Sunday, October 30 noted that they are not interested in having Raila Odinga on board, further claiming that he will destroy the government as he did to former President Uhuru’s leadership.
“Yesterday I saw him saying that he will not be coerced or intimidated to join our government. Listen to me, we are not looking for you and we have no time. The last time he entered Uhuru’s government, he destroyed it,” said Gachagua.
Furthermore, the deputy president stated that the head of state has a competent team to help him run the government, including himself. As such he added that Raila should focus on his role in the opposition to check and balance the government.

“We have a president who can work, and we don’t want help from that man. Stay where you are and do your oversight role. Let them correct us that is their job and if they do that, they will be doing their job, “Gachagua said.
Nonetheless, the deputy president had accompanied President Ruto to the thanksgiving ceremony in Murang’a, flanked by Cabinet Secretaries Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u (Treasury), Alice Wahome (Water Sanitation) and Peninah Malonza (Tourism).
Other leaders in attendance were Murang’a governor Irungu Kang’ata, MPs Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu), Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu) amongst other leaders.
