Kenyan footballer Wilson Waweru, born in Galway, Ireland, to Kenyan parents, has earned a permanent deal with English National League side Wealdstone FC.
He developed his football career through the Galway United Academy, where he progressed to the senior team and made his debut in 2018.
His professional career has included spells with Galway United, Cobh Ramblers and Sligo Rovers before returning to Cobh Ramblers.
In a statement issued on August 14, 2026, Wealdstone FC confirmed Waweru’s permanent move to the club, stating:
“Wealdstone Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Wilson Waweru, who joins on a permanent deal.”
Wealdstone manager Gary Waddock praised Waweru’s pre-season performances, highlighting his movement, work rate and quality in the final third.
“Wilson has impressed us throughout pre-season with his movement, work rate and quality in the final third. He gives us another strong attacking option, and we’re really pleased to have him with us.”

Profile of Wilson Waweru
Wilson Waweru, 25, has spent most of his career in the League of Ireland, where he gained Premier Division experience with Sligo Rovers. He scored nine goals in 44 league appearances for the club.
He began his senior career with Galway United, making his debut at the age of 17 and later recording more than 80 league appearances.
His spells with Sligo Rovers were separated by two stints at Cobh Ramblers. During his first spell at Cobh Ramblers, he scored 13 goals in 30 league matches on loan.
Wilson Waweru returned to Cobh Ramblers for a second spell this season and scored a further four league goals before securing his move to Wealdstone.
The striker trained with the Wealdstone squad during the final weeks of pre-season and became available for the club’s opening home match of the Enterprise National League campaign against Harrogate Town.

In the 2019/20 season, Wealdstone won the National League South title and secured promotion to the National League.
The club is managed by Gary Waddock, who was appointed in February 2026. Under his management, Wealdstone completed the permanent signing of Kenyan footballer Wilson Waweru in August 2026.
