In the realm of athletics, three names stand tall, leaving an indelible mark on the track and inspiring a generation with their extraordinary feats: Faith Kipyegon, Kelvin Kiptum and Eliud Kipchoge.
Hailing from Rift Valley, the running powerhouse of Kenya, these three athletes have not only dominated their respective disciplines but have also become symbols of resilience, dedication, and unparalleled achievement.

Faith Kipyegon
Faith Kipyegon has dominated the athletics awards in 2023 breaking three world records and winning two world titles.
Additionally, she has been nominated for the World Athletics Female Athlete of the Year Award for her brilliant performance.
Kipyegon attended Keringet Township Primary School before joining Keringe Winners Girls High School in Kuresoi South, Nakuru County.
Winners Girls was established by a Dutch philanthropist known as Piet de Peut.
The mission of the school is to give a conducive environment for learning while at the same time tapping talent.
Kipyegon sat for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2015.
In the line with its mission, the school has produced some of the best athletes in Kenya.
Other than, Kipyegon, the school has produced other top athletes including Mercy Chebwogen who won the 2011 World Junior champion in 3000m.
Africa Senior Athletics Championship Silver winner Jackline Chepng’eno is also an alumnus of Winners Girls.
Others who attended the school alumni include 2013 world youth steeplechase champion Rosefline Chepngetich and Joyline Cherotich who won a bronze medal in the World Youth championship 2015.

Eliud Kipchoge
Legendary marathon athlete Kipchoge attended Kaptel Secondary School located near Kapsabet town in Nandi County.
Kaptel was established in 1968 with the motto ‘Strive to Excel’ and has since produced prominent individuals in Kenya.
These include former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett and Peter Koech, 1988 Seoul Olympics silver medalist.
Other alumni are former Chesumei MP and Boston Marathon winner in 2000 Elijah Lagat and Dr Elly Kibet Cherwon.
Currently, Kaptel Secondary is categorized as a county level boarding boys’ secondary school.

Kelvin Kiptum
Kelvin Kiptum is the reigning Men’s Marathon World Record holder.
He shattered Kipchoge’s previous record with a phenomenal time of 2:00:35 in the Chicago Marathon on October 10, 2023.
However, Kiptum’s story is slightly different from that of Kipyegon and Kipchoge since he did not attend secondary school.
He decided to discontinue with education after completing standard eight at Chepsamo Primary School in Keiyo South.
According to media reports, the family had given up on Kiptum after he lost interest in secondary education.
The father, Samson Cheruiyot, wanted him to focus on his studies before pursuing his dream of becoming an athlete.
However, despite the dad’s pressure, Kiptum joined a local youth polytechnic to study electrical wiring grade one.
