Telecommunications giant Safaricom has revised its Home Fiber Fair Usage Policy (FUP), reducing data thresholds across all packages.
This comes after Safaricom raised the FUP to a flat 15 Terabytes (TB) across all tiers in November 2025.
Home Fibre packages are sold as fixed monthly plans. Customers pay Ksh 2,999 or Ksh 6,299 to use the internet at the advertised speed for the entire month.
The Fair Usage Policy acts as the usage ceiling. It is a consumption cap assigned for each usage cycle, not a volume resource or bundle allocation.
Safaricom Reduces Home Fibre FUP Limit from 15TB to 1.5TB
Under the revised structure seen by The Kenya Times, Bronze has dropped from 15TB to 1.5TB, a 90% reduction.
Silver has fallen from 15TB to 2TB, representing an 87% cut. Gold has similarly moved from 15 TB to 5 TB.
Diamond and Platinum now both sit at 7TB, reflecting a 53% reduction from previous limits.
Once a customer hits the FUP data limit, the connection is throttled to much slower speeds for the remainder of the billing period.
The user remains connected to the internet, but at significantly reduced speeds well below the advertised performance of the subscribed package.

The Bronze package now offers 40 Mbps for Ksh 2,999 per month, with speeds reduced to 4 Mbps once the 1.5 TB FUP limit is reached.
The Silver package, priced at Ksh 4,100, provides 60 Mbps and is capped at 2 TB, after which speeds drop to 8 Mbps.
According to Safaricom, the Gold package delivers 150 Mbps for Ksh 6,299, with a 5 TB limit. After that, speeds are reduced to 20 Mbps.
For higher-tier users, the Diamond package offers 500 Mbps at Ksh 12,499 with a 7 TB limit, while the Platinum package provides 1,000 Mbps at Ksh 20,000, also capped at 7 TB.
In both cases, speeds have been reduced to 25 Mbps once the threshold is reached.
In last year’s update, a Bronze subscriber went from a 500GB cap to 15TB. Gold went from 1 TB to 15 TB.
At 15 TB, most households would never hit the limit under normal usage, effectively making the FUP a non-issue for most people.
