The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a detailed weather forecast for January 6 to 10. In its January 6 forecast, the Met Department stated that mainly sunny and dry conditions are expected across most of the country.
In its latest five-day forecast, the department stated that occasional rainfall will be experienced in a few areas, particularly over the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley region, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the south-eastern lowlands.
Kenya Met also warned of strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 metres per second) over Marsabit and Turkana counties.
“Mainly sunny and dry conditions over several parts of the country. However, occasional rainfall is expected over a few areas, particularly in the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the south-eastern lowlands,” read part of its forecast.
KMD Forecasts Occasional Rainfall and Strong Southeasterly Winds Across the Country
In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, which includes Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties, mornings will have sunny intervals.
Afternoon showers are forecast over a few places on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a chance of showers persisting into Thursday and Friday.
Night-time conditions will be characterised by occasional showers early in the week, easing to partly cloudy conditions towards the weekend.
Temperatures across these counties will range from 7°C to 31°C.
North-Western Regions
In North-western Kenya, covering Turkana and Samburu counties, mornings and afternoons are expected to have sunny intervals.
KMD further noted that nights will be partly cloudy throughout the period. Maximum temperatures are forecast to reach 38°C, while minimum temperatures will stay around 16°C.

Highlands East of the Rift Valley And Nairobi
In Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi counties, mornings will have sunny intervals.
In the afternoons, sunny intervals are expected, and a few places may see showers as the weekend approaches, while nights are expected to be partly cloudy.
Temperatures in these counties will range from 7°C to 29°C.
North-Eastern
In the Northeastern region, comprising Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, mornings and afternoons will be sunny.
Nights are expected to be partly cloudy throughout the period. Temperatures in these counties will range from 16°C to 38°C.

South-Eastern Counties
Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta counties, and the inland parts of Tana River County, mornings will be sunny.
According to KMD, some areas in the Southeastern region may experience light showers in the afternoon, while nights are expected to be partly cloudy.
Temperatures in these regions will range from 14°C to 32°C.
Coast Regions
In Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as the coastal parts of Tana River County, mornings will have sunny intervals.
Afternoons are expected to be sunny, while nights will be partly cloudy throughout the period.
Temperatures in these counties will range from 24°C to 34°C.
