Tensions in the Gulf region escalated as Iran issued an urgent evacuation warning for residents in parts of Dubai and Doha, citing the presence of U.S. military personnel and the potential for imminent strikes.
Evacuation Zones Highlighted
According to Iran’s Media Operations Centre, residents in specific districts of Dubai and Doha are being urged to leave immediately.
In Dubai, the warning singled out Dubai Marina, a densely populated waterfront area known for luxury high-rises, hotels, and yacht marinas, and Arabian Ranches, a suburban gated community inland, approximately 20–25 kilometers from central Dubai.
In Doha, the Iranian-issued map highlighted Lusail, Al Waab, and Ain Khaled, areas known for residential and commercial activity. Press TV, Iran’s state-linked broadcaster, reported that the locations were under potential threat due to alleged U.S. military presence.

A statement released alongside the maps accused local authorities of harboring “American terrorists” and facilitating attacks on Iranian soil, adding that residents should evacuate “as quickly as possible” to avoid being caught in potential strikes.
Impact on Travel and Operations
As reported by The Times Of Israel on Monday 16th, the warning has already disrupted regional travel. Saudi low-cost carrier Flynas suspended flights to and from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Doha, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, and Syria. Similarly, Indian carriers IndiGo and SpiceJet announced restrictions on Dubai operations, affecting flights scheduled from March 15 to 17.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain updated through official channels. The UAE sent mobile alerts advising residents to stay alert, although officials later indicated that some areas were “now safe.” Meanwhile, major sporting events, including the Qatar MotoGP, have been postponed, reflecting the ripple effects of the escalating conflict on the region’s public life.
Diplomatic Responses
Governments across the region have responded cautiously. India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, held talks with his UAE counterpart, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, discussing the regional situation and emphasizing the need for coordination to protect citizens and residents.

UAE authorities have also taken action to counter misinformation. At least 35 individuals, including 19 Indian nationals, were ordered arrested for publishing misleading content related to the conflict, according to the UAE official news agency WAM. Authorities are pursuing expedited trials in these cases to prevent panic and maintain public order.
Broader Regional Tensions
The warning comes amid ongoing U.S.-Iran tensions, triggered by attacks on Iranian targets, including the Kharg Island oil hub. Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, asserted that missiles and drone strikes in the Gulf had targeted U.S. installations specifically, not civilian areas, and expressed willingness to investigate incidents involving unintended targets.
Neighboring countries, including Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, reported working to intercept incoming missiles and drones, highlighting heightened military alertness.
