Director of Communication in the Office of the Fourth President of Kenya Kanze Dena has revealed that she has not been remunerated for two years by the government despite her work.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Kanze stated that the office of the Fourth President Uhuru Kenyatta had written to State House and various authorities within the government over the matter, but no response was given.
Further, she issued documents of proof which included a letter sent to State House Comptroller Katoo Ole Metito dated January 25, 2023. The letter requested for financial support to pay staff at Uhuru’s office including Kanze.
However, according to Kanze, the letter was never responded to, and no explanation was given over the lack of response.
“I guess just like all the other letters we have been writing to state house we have not received any communication back, because there are many letters that we have written,” she said.

Why Kanze Dena is Sticking by Uhuru
When asked why she chose to stay and work for Uhuru Kenyatta’s office without receiving any salary, she explained that she chose to stay even through the challenges because of her character.
“There are things that as a person you must decide what you stand for. When I was asked to join the team, I agreed. Somewhere along the way things were not working out.
“In terms of character what was the best thing to do? I chose to stay with the ship and sail through the storms instead of jumping out,” Kanze said.
Moreover, she noted that she has been forced to survive on her savings during the duration.
“That is the good thing about savings, and I would like to encourage every Kenyan to save for a rainy day. Because that is when I understood the meaning of savings. I thank God for saccos and other opportunities,” she added.

Earlier, Kanze said during a press conference that the Office of the Fourth President had not received approximately Ksh1 billion in the past two years as mandated by the Constitution.
Additionally, she said that Uhuru’s office received only Ksh28 million out of the Ksh655 million allocated to it in the last financial year.
In response to the statement by Uhuru’s Office, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura denied the claims saying that the state diligently pays the salaries of the retired President, his staff and their allowances.
“The retired President’s budget is under the State House Comptroller, who is the accounting officer of the State House, including the Office of the Retired President,” read the statement in part.
“The Comptroller originates the budget and defends it in Parliament. There was therefore no compelling obligation to seek concurrence on the budget with the Office of the Retired President.”
Also, he said that State House maintains and fuels the 14 vehicles, and facilitates all travels for the former President, both local and international.
