Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene unleashed a blistering attack on conservative commentator Benny Johnson on Wednesday, May 13, calling him a “lying scumbag” and making it clear the two are not friends.
The heated exchange began after Johnson addressed trending topics on X, including rumors that Greene had bought a multimillion-dollar mansion in South America. He also criticized her recent support for Rep. Thomas Massie.
Johnson said he was simply doing his job by covering what his audience wanted to see.
“And unlike you, I won’t run away from my job when things get tough. Even worse, you are now siding with left-wing extremists who attacked us all for years and want our movement and leaders dead,” Johnson said.
Greene’s Bold Response
Greene responded with a lengthy post, denying ever fleeing the country or purchasing property overseas.
“I never fled America,” Greene wrote. “Yes, I sold my house in Rome, Ga and have another house under contract in Georgia. As Brian and I are planning to get married, and I wanted to live closer to my family, like my Mom and kids. And now I’m on vacation, gee, what a scandal.”
Greene, who left Congress after her time representing Georgia’s 14th District, announced her engagement to pro-Trump journalist Brian Glenn late last year.
The couple has been together since 2023. She said the move within Georgia is meant to keep her near family as she starts this new stage in her personal life.
She accused Johnson of jumping on unchecked claims pushed by others, including far-right activist Laura Loomer, without first checking the facts.
“You could have reached out and asked me about the complete and total …,” she wrote. “Instead, you chose to trash-talk me, name-call me, and spread the lies for money.”

Greene went further, claiming that Johnson’s decision to target her prompted people to share information about him with her. She listed several serious allegations.
“Allegations about young men at conservative conferences? Allegations that you got paid by Russia and Israel? Allegations that you rip off people’s content and articles and pretend like it’s your own? How about you cover those trending topics, Benny?” she wrote.
The former congresswoman also described Johnson as operating at “the most repulsive level of MAGA” and accused him of elevating lies for profit rather than focusing on real issues.
This public clash spotlights the growing divisions inside conservative circles since Trump returned to the White House, especially after his administration launched the war with Iran, a move Greene has strongly opposed from the start.
Greene has increasingly broken with some Trump-aligned voices on issues like foreign aid and certain policy directions.
Reactions on Social Media
Some netizens backed Greene, praising her for pushing back against what they see as grifting in conservative media.
Others defended Johnson, arguing he was right to question Greene’s recent moves and her defense of Massie, who has faced his own controversies.
Meanwhile, no public evidence has been presented to support the particular claims Greene leveled against Johnson,
Since leaving Washington, Greene has remained active on social media, frequently weighing in on national politics and personal matters.
Her engagement to Glenn, a White House correspondent for Real America’s Voice, drew attention late in 2025 when the couple shared photos of the proposal.
This latest drama shows just how fast things can spiral in the rough-and-tumble world of conservative online commentary.
What began as simple coverage of trending rumors has blown up into a raw, personal feud between two of the biggest names on the right.
Greene affirmed that she will not stay silent when she believes lies are being spread about her.
