United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has outlined four key objectives of the US military in Iran.
Speaking live on Good Morning America (GMA) as the U.S. military campaign against Iran enters its fifth week, outlining what he described as the operation’s clear, specific objectives.
“This operation, okay, and that’s what this is, it’s about very specific objectives. The president laid them out on the first night of the operation. I’ll repeat them to you now because I hear a lot of talk about, we don’t know what the clear objectives are,” said Rubio.
Rubio’s remarks come amid ongoing military operations by the United States and its partners, including Israel, against Iranian forces.

United States Military Objectives in Middle East
Speaking to GMA, Rubio outlined what he said were the central military objectives of the U.S.-led operation, including
- The destruction of Iran’s Air Force, to eliminate its capacity to challenge U.S. and allied air operations.
- The destruction of Iran’s Navy, removing its ability to project power at sea and contest control of key waterways.
- Severe diminishment of Iran’s missile‑launching capability, targeting batteries and launchers that have struck regional forces and infrastructure.
- Destruction of factories producing missiles and drones, to prevent Tehran from replenishing its military stockpiles.
Rubio also affirmed that Washington is ahead of the schedule to meet the aims and that the work is expected to be completed in a matter of weeks, not months.
Rubio said the goals are limited and focused on degrading Iran’s ability to threaten the United States and its partners.
On Friday, the United States Secretary of State affirmed that Washington could achieve its objectives in the Middle East without deploying more troops to the region.
We are ahead of schedule on most of them, and we can achieve them without any ground troops, without any,” Rubio said.
“That was our objective from the beginning; that remains our objective now. We are on pace and in fact ahead of schedule on some of those things, and we are going to achieve those things in a number of weeks, not in a number of months,” added Rubio.

Trump Threatens Iran’s Infrastructure
U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, stating that if his demands are not met, he will blow up all oil wells in the region and also cut off the region’s supply of clean water.
In a public statement on his official Truth Social account, President Donald Trump said the United States is engaged in serious discussions with what he described as a new and more reasonable leadership in Iran.
He said the talks are focused on ending American military operations connected to Iran and reaching an agreement that would stabilize the region.
According to Trump, if the Strait of Hormuz was not immediately opened to commercial traffic, the United States would carry out large-scale strikes on Iran’s economic and civilian infrastructure.
He said targets would include electric power plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island, a central hub for Iran’s oil exports.
Trump added that desalination plants, which provide drinking water in many parts of the country, could also be hit.
