President Donald Trump drew attention to the absence of women in the audience at a White House UFC event during a June 23, 2026, speech in Macungie, Pennsylvania.
Trump made the remark while introducing UFC fighters Bo Nickal and Anthony Cassar at a Mack Trucks facility event.
The fighters had praised Trump on stage before he discussed the “Freedom 250” UFC card held on the White House South Lawn on June 14.
In the speech, Trump described the pressure fighters face in the Octagon. “These are the strongest, toughest men on Earth. No women in the crowd, which is nice,” he said.
He continued by praising both physical strength and mental toughness. “You got the big strong muscles, but you got this muscle too because it takes much more than just the normal muscle to win those matches. The strategy and the genius that goes with it.”
The comment came in the context of an event that featured only men’s fights. No women’s bouts were scheduled for the White House card, despite UFC president Dana White’s earlier interest in including one.
Tickets for the invitation-heavy event were limited, with many distributed to supporters, politicians, military personnel, and guests. Reports described the South Lawn crowd as overwhelmingly male, consistent with combat sports attendance patterns.

White House Hosts UFC Event on Flag Day
The Freedom 250 card marked a high-profile mixing of professional fighting and presidential events. Held to coincide with Flag Day and Trump’s birthday, the event featured a large Octagon structure known as “The Claw” on the South Lawn.
Headliners included top UFC talent in men’s divisions. Military members formed a significant part of the audience and viewing areas on the Ellipse.
Trump noted the demand for entry. “You couldn’t get a ticket. The tickets were selling for some crazy numbers, I heard. We gave them away to everybody, but somehow some got out.” He emphasized the difficulty of performing under such conditions in front of “the richest and the biggest politicians” and other prominent attendees.
The Pennsylvania speech lasted nearly 90 minutes. Trump yielded the stage briefly to Nickal and Cassar, then used their appearance to pivot to the White House fight night.
The remark about the crowd drew attention amid broader coverage of the event, which also included a notable incident involving fighter Josh Hokit and former first lady Michelle Obama.
Trump Draws Reactions
Coverage of the UFC night focused on both the spectacle and specific moments inside the Octagon. Trump’s Pennsylvania remarks added another layer. Supporters viewed the comment as a straightforward observation of the fight-night atmosphere. Critics called it tone-deaf and unnecessary.
Trump has maintained a long relationship with the UFC and Dana White. He has frequently attended events and hosted fighters. The White House card continued that pattern on a larger scale, using the grounds for a combat sports production.
