A spot check on Ruth Kulundu’s LinkedIn profile reveals she has amassed over 20-years work experience in both the private and public sector, her current station in office being the Deputy CEO of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after a Nairobi court suspended her interdiction.
A Bachelors of Commerce (1989 – 1992) and Masters Degree in Economics graduate from the University of Nairob (2005- 2008), Kulundu who previously served as the elections manager in Siaya County before rising to the position of Deputy IEBC CEO in 2022 was fired by her boss Marjan Hussein Marjan for breach of confidentiality, insubordination and intimidation of staff.

However, on Thursday, January 26, the Labour Relations court reinstated Kulundu in ruling presided over by Justice Linet Ndolo where Marjan was found to have breached IEBC’s Human Resource protocol by acting as judge, jury and executioner.
Kulundu describes herself as an “Election Expert, excellent in management of organizations & people.” While serving Kenya’s electoral body between 2010 and 2017, the reinstated IEBC Deputy CEO made a critical decision that caught the attention of the country.
“During 2017 General Elections, I suspended election campaigns in Siaya County for two weeks and this decision helped us to save many lives and manage expectations on the ground, the first and only suspension to have been made by a Returning Officer in the history of elections in the Country since 1963,” Kulundu states in her LinkedIn profile.
