The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) allows students to apply for both degree and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses during an open application cycle.
According to the placement service in the current 2026 application cycle, students can apply to multiple programs across different categories.
Currently, the placement service allows students to apply for up to 6 degree courses and up to 4 diploma, certificate, or artisan programs.
“One can apply for a maximum of six degree courses and up to four for diploma, certificate, and artisan programmes,” KUCCPS clarifies on maximum courses application.
In addition to allowing students to apply for both TVET and degree programs, the placement service emphasizes that the application process runs in consecutive windows.
For students with a mean grade of C+ and above, the placement services advise that they should prioritize having realistic degree choices and adding TVET courses as alternatives.
Despite applying for both the degree and TVET courses, the placement service has clearly stated that the government-sponsored placement is only done for one program.
Degree and TVET Course Application Requirements
Students seeking to apply for degree courses during the open KUCCPS application cycle must have a minimum mean grade of C+ in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
However, the placement service notes that the requirement for the application into the TVET programs is open to any student with a mean grade of A to E in their KCSE.
Candidates who undertook their KCSE examinations from 2000 to 2025 are eligible to apply for the TVET programs during the 2026 application cycle.
According to the placement, service during the application of the TVET programs, students can apply in different categories, including the Diploma level 6, Craft Certificate Level 5, and Artisan Level 4.
