Greenline Safaris, one of Kenya’s largest, longest-running cross-border bus networks, is owned by a well-known Kenyan transport tycoon.

The businessman Lazarus Thuo is the owner and managing director of Greenline Safaris and is described as a Kisii/North Rift tycoon with interests in long-distance bus transport and related businesses.

Greenline Safaris is registered as Greenline Company Ltd, which was incorporated on March 26, 2009.

Thuo built Greenline from a single minibus on the Kitale–Nairobi route (around 2009) into a multi-country fleet with dozens of buses and offices in Kitale, Nairobi, and Kampala.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) from Kenyatta University.

The company now serves towns in Western Kenya (Kitale, Bungoma, Kakamega, Eldoret, Malaba, etc.) and international destinations like Kampala (Uganda) and Kigali (Rwanda).

Court records also show the company operating under the name Mvumilivu Safaris, with John Waithaka Thuo appearing as a key figure in litigation alongside the company.

Greenline is one of the most visible brands on the Nairobi–Western Kenya–Uganda corridor.

Greenline Safaris Fleet and Operations

Greenline Safaris operates more than 50 buses serving over 100 destinations across Kenya and neighboring countries.

Its major routes include Nairobi, Kitale, Bungoma, Webuye and Malaba, with services extending to Kampala in Uganda and Kigali in Rwanda.

The company’s head office is located at Shephard Arcade Building in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.

Greenline also operates a Nairobi office along Temple Road/Duruma Road near the Old Taxi Park in Starehe.

For ticketing, the company uses digital platforms such as BuuPass to facilitate online bookings.

Lazarus Thuo has earlier praised digital ticketing systems for helping improve the monitoring of staff, drivers, income, and expenses across the fleet.

Main Offices Locations

Greenline Safaris operates key booking and passenger service points in Nairobi, Kitale and Kampala.

Its Nairobi booking office is located along Duruma/Ruvuma Lane, next to Texas Club and near the Old Taxi Park in the CBD. The location is also commonly described as Temple Road, OTC.

In Kitale, the company’s head office is at Shephard Arcade Building, where it serves as a major booking point for western Kenya routes.

Greenline Safaris also has an office at Namayiba Bus Park in Kampala, Uganda, serving passengers traveling along the Kenya-Uganda corridor.

The offices provide booking and passenger services for the company’s long-distance and cross-border routes.
