Mwenda Muthuri Mbijiwe, also known as Peter Mwenda Mbijiwe, is a Kenyan security analyst, former military officer, and consultant renowned for his expertise in counterterrorism and national security.
He is also a former commander of the Kenya Air Force, specifically the Air Defense Control Unit.
Mwenda rose to prominence through media contributions and advisory roles to the government and private sectors.
Mwenda is said to have mysteriously disappeared on June 12, 2021, his case becoming a symbol of enforced disappearances in Kenya, with ongoing legal battles.

He is said to have been last seen driving from Nairobi to his rural home in Meru County, with witnesses claiming that two uniformed police officers stopped his car at Roysambu Roundabout.
Mwenda’s vehicle was later found abandoned with the engine running, and to date, no official arrests have ever been made.
Mwenda Mbijiwe’s Family Background
Mwenda was born in the mid-1970s to Jane Gatwiri. He has a stepfather, Mr. Nkonge Stephen.
He was raised in Kimbo Village, Meru County, Kenya. He was based in Nairobi at the time of his disappearance.
He was described as a family man, tied in Meru, with limited details available publicly about his spouse or children.

Mwenda founded the Resurrection Glory Ministries International (RGMI) and had also served as a senior pastor at Glory Cathedral Church in Nairobi, a religious dimension to his personal life.
He was in Nairobi at the time of his disappearance, aged 51 years, with his mother being the lead petitioner in court cases and efforts to locate his whereabouts.
Mwenda’s Educational Background
He is highly known for his great mind and wit.
Between 2014 and 2017, Mwenda pursued a BA in Armed Conflict and Peace Studies at the University of Nairobi, graduating.
In 2020-2021, Mwenda bagged an MA in National Security and Diplomacy, graduating from the Tel Aviv University.
Mwenda’s career
Mbijiwe has worked with top institutions in Kenya, providing training and expertise.
He had served as a commander in the Air Defense Control Unit and retired in 2007.
Mwenda founded a consultancy firm, Eye on Security Ltd, consulted for private firms and government agencies, and was widely regarded as an informal security adviser to former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He also served as a senior pastor of Glory Cathedral Church in Nairobi, as well as the CEO of the Resurrection Glory Ministries International.
Mwenda worked as the vice president of the Sister Cities Association of Kenya.
Before his disappearance, he had declared interest in the 2022 Meru gubernatorial race.
Controversies and Disappearance
In 2019, a case was filed against Mwenda, with claims of allegedly swindling KSH 150,000 from an unidentified individual.
Mwenda alarmingly went missing on June 12, 2021, while heading to his rural home in Meru, with allegations of state operative abductions.
Court Case progress
On December 3, the Milimani High Court delivered a dramatic twist in Mbijiwe’s case.
Justice Lawrence Mugambi summoned Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI Director, Mohamed Amin, to appear in person on December 16 to explain why no progress has been made.
