HEZENA LEMALETIAN MALMAL

NAME HEZENA LEMALETIAN MALMAL
AGE 34 YEARS
GENDER  FEMALE
OCCUPATION POLITICIAN

Hezena Lemaletian Malmal is a Kenyan model and politician currently serving as a Nominated Senator under the Orange Democratic Movement.

Early life and education

Hezena Lemaletian was born and raised in Samburu County, northern Kenya.

Her father served as a District Commissioner, a role she credits with instilling in her values of public service and integrity.

She began her education at Milimani Primary School in Maralal, Samburu, before joining St. Theresa Girls High School for secondary studies.

After completing high school, she joined the University of Nairobi, graduating in 2015 with a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance.

Her education provided a strong foundation in finance and management, preparing her for roles in both government and advocacy work.

Career

Professional Career

After completing her studies, Hezena M. Lemaletian began her career in public service, gaining hands-on experience in financial management and government operations.

From 2013 to 2015, while still finalizing her university education, she worked as a Finance Assistant at the Tourism Fund, then known as the Catering and Tourism Development Levy Trustees (CTDLT).

She later joined the Ministry of Environment, Mineral and Natural Resources in the same capacity, serving from 2015 to 2017.

Lemaletian’s work extended beyond government service into advocacy and cultural leadership.

She made history as the first woman from northern Kenya to win the Miss Commonwealth Kenya title, giving her a platform to promote cultural exchange and charitable initiatives internationally.

Through this role, she represented Kenya at global forums, focusing on issues affecting marginalized communities, especially women and youth.

Motivated by the challenges facing her home region, Lemaletian founded the Pastoralists Sports Initiative, an organization that leverages sports to foster peace and economic empowerment among pastoralist communities.

The initiative brings together youth from rival ethnic groups, using sporting events to reduce conflict, encourage dialogue, and promote social cohesion.

It also supports programs aimed at improving education and creating livelihood opportunities.

Her dedication to grassroots empowerment and peacebuilding earned her recognition on the continental stage, receiving the African Leadership Hall of Fame Award and the Exceptional Young African Leaders Award.

Political career

Lemaletian transitioned from advocacy into active politics in 2022, when she was nominated to the Senate under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Her nomination followed the August 2022 General Election, where ODM allocated positions to represent women and youth from marginalized and pastoralist regions.

In the Senate, Lemaletian serves on the Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, where she champions policies aimed at improving food security and protecting pastoralist livelihoods.

As a member of the Committee on Information, Communication and Technology, she advocates for expanding digital access and innovation in remote areas.

She also sits on the Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations, working to strengthen county governance and ensure equitable resource distribution.

Controversies

In early 2025, she made headlines when she cancelled her wedding and returned dowry, citing issues identified during traditional Samburu pre-marital checks.

Later in 2025, Lemaletian claimed her life was under threat, alleging intimidation by politically connected individuals from Samburu.

These revelations highlighted the dangers faced by women leaders in conflict-prone regions and sparked national debate on the protection of elected officials.

Net Worth

Details of her net worth are not publicly known.
