John Kaveke is a renowned Kenyan fashion designer who dresses prominent figures, including Eric Latiff.
According to Kaveke, his style is a blend of simplicity, comfort, and sometimes color, and his passion for fashion began in high school.
“My style is simple, comfortable, and sometimes colorful. I love black and so I have a lot of black pieces,” John Kaveke stated during an interview with the Standard.
Early Life and Family
Kaveke was born in Mombasa and moved to Nairobi at age four, and in his family, he was viewed as a quiet child.
Kaveke’s interest in textiles and fashion was not supported by his family, who, according to them, thought fashion was a non-viable profession compared to traditional tailoring.

Educational Background
Kaveke attended Parklands Primary and Ruiru High School, and during high school, he realized that clothes could serve as a medium for art to express personal beliefs.
Before receiving his KCSE results, Kaveke enrolled in Woodgrove Fashion College in Nairobi, where he earned a two-year diploma.
To refine his technical expertise, Kaveke traveled to Spain in 2005 to study at the Instituto Europeo di Design in Barcelona.
Kaveke requested a one-year intensive program instead of the standard four-year curriculum to gain practical experience.
During his studies at Instituto Europeo di Design in Barcelona, John Kaveke had to learn Spanish, as all lessons were taught in Spanish.
John Kaveke’s Career and Achievement
Kaveke officially launched his professional fashion line in 1998, initially working from home before moving to a market stall in Westlands.
According to Kaveke, his first order was a modest commission to design dance clothes for nursery school children.
However, in 2009, Kaveke had a breakthrough in his fashion design career when he served as a designer and judge for M-Net Face of Africa in Nigeria.
In 2010, Kaveke was invited to London Fashion Week, and in 2011 his work was featured IN Vogue Italia.
