In 1983, Peter Kaluma attended Ndiru Primary School for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and in 1991, he went to St. Joseph’s High School in Rapogi for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
From 1996 to 2000, he joined the University of Nairobi to pursue a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B).

Between 2000 and 2001 attended the Kenya School of Law for a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies.
In 2006, he joined the University of Nairobi to pursue a Master of Laws (LL.M).

Kaluma was employed at Lumumba & Mumma Advocates as a Pupilage from 2000 to 2001 and then moved to B. M. Musau & Co. Advocates based in Nairobi as an associate between 2002 and 2003.
He went back to Lumumba, Mumma & Kaluma Advocates as a partner from 2004 to 2012.
In 2009, he worked at Kenya School of Law and Kabarak University as a lecturer till 2012. Between 2011 and 2012, he also worked as a lecturer at the University of Nairobi.
Since March 2013, he has been a member of the Kenya National Assembly representing the Homa Bay Town Constituency.
