The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) Survey has revealed that more than 60% of Kenyans will not re-elect President William Ruto or any current political leader.
According to NCCK survey released on December 4, more than 80% of the people say the nation is heading in the wrong direction.
“More than 60% would not re-elect any of the current political leaders from the Member of County Assembly to the President,” read part of the report.
“More than 80% of the people say the nation is heading in the wrong direction.”

In the survey, NCCK warned that the cost of living has become untenable, with a toxic business environment driving companies out of the country and triggering massive job losses.
The council noted that the resulting collapse in household purchasing power has pushed many small and micro businesses to shut down, deepening poverty and fueling a rise in school dropouts, family instability, depression, gender-based violence and crime.
NCCK criticized the government for releasing reports that paint a picture of economic growth “while people are suffering,” cautioning that the growing anger and hopelessness among citizens is a time-bomb waiting to explode.
The council further noted that the Parliament is betraying the public, citing Chapter Eight of the Constitution, which assigns lawmakers three core duties: making laws, representing the people, and providing oversight over the government.
“The greatest sorrow in Kenya is that Members of Parliament have wholesomely failed the people of Kenya, lost legitimacy, and have become perpetrators of injustice,” read part of the report.

Recommendations to the Government
NCCK raised alarm over what it described as sustained attempts to erode Kenya’s multiparty democracy, warning that recent political conduct threatens the integrity of future elections.
The council cited by-election incidents of voter bribery, misuse of state agencies in campaigns, mobilization of violence, open participation of state officers in political activities, and public declarations by individuals linked to government that the elections would be rigged.
NCCK noted that the failure by the IEBC, the Police and other state organs to act has signaled a worrying intent to dilute democratic processes, questioning what assurance Kenyans have that the 2027 polls will be credible.
“What hope do Kenyans have that the 2027 General Elections will be any different?” the council asked.
The council also renewed its call to young people to take charge of their future, noting that the older generation, which comprises less than 30 percent of the population, cannot build the country they envision.

NCCK praised youth activism seen in June 2024 and urged young Kenyans to register as voters, join political parties, and participate actively in community and faith spaces.
“In the meantime, we appeal to all the young people to register as voters and to actively engage in political parties, community, churches and other platforms as responsible citizens,” read the report.
NCCK Raises Alarm on Health Sectors
On health, NCCK expressed concern over the return of frequent medical fundraisers despite mandatory enrollment into the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
The council reported widespread claims that officials of the Social Health Authority are demanding bribes to release payments owed to health facilities, leaving many patients without care.
It further criticized the opaque management of public health insurance and warned that Kenyans may push for the disbandment of SHA if it fails to deliver on its mandate.
