The Consolata Missionaries have announced the death of Kenyan priest Chrispine Okello, IMC, who passed away on July 16, while serving as the Parish Priest of Kapeeka Parish in the Kasana-Luweero Diocese, Uganda.
According to a funeral announcement by the congregation, Fr. Okello was ordained a priest in 1998 and dedicated more than 25 years to missionary work across Africa, Europe, and South America.
“The Consolata Missionaries announce with deep sorrow the passing of Rev. Fr. Chrispine Oduor Okello, IMC on 16 July 2026. At the time of his death, he was serving as Parish Priest of Kapeeka Parish, Kasana-Luweero Diocese, Uganda. Ordained in 1998, Fr. Okello dedicated over 25 years to missionary service in Africa, Europe and South America,” the congregation said.
Church Mourns Veteran Kenyan Missionary Priest
During his ministry, Fr. Chrsopine Okello served in Spain, Kenya, Uganda, and Venezuela, earning admiration for his pastoral commitment, resilience, and close relationship with the communities he served.

He joined the Consolata Missionaries in 1988 after responding to a missionary calling at a young age, inspired by his uncle. He made his first religious profession on August 6, 1992, in Nairobi.
Born in 1967 in Mahero Village, Alego West, Siaya County, Fr. Okello was the son of the late George Okello Ajienga and Mary Awino Okello. He is survived by several siblings and members of his extended family.
After completing his theological studies in Madrid, Spain, he was ordained a priest on July 23, 1998, in Kisumu before beginning his ministry in Spain.
He later served in Kenya and Uganda before being assigned to Venezuela in 2016, where he ministered in Carapita (Caracas), Delta Amacuro among the indigenous Warao people, and later in Barlovento, Miranda, serving the parishes of Caucagua, Tapipa, El Clavo and Panaquire.
The congregation said he became widely known for his simplicity, joy, closeness to the faithful and unwavering commitment to serving the poor, even in communities affected by violence, poverty and exclusion.
In a 2019 video, Fr. Okello reflected on his work among the indigenous Warao community.
“I believe I am living out our charism of working with the poorest and proclaiming the Good News. You experience the joy of being with them, working, sharing, eating with them. It is a proclamation of being present and accompanying these people.”
Church Remembers Priest’s Unwavering Missionary Commitment.
In 2023, Fr. Chrispine Okello marked 25 years of priesthood with the Venezuelan communities he had served and later attended the G25 ongoing formation course in Rome for missionaries celebrating 25 years since ordination or religious profession.
The same year, he returned to Kenya for a sabbatical focused on spiritual and psychological renewal before taking up his final assignment at Kapeeka Parish in Uganda.

The Kenya-Uganda Region of the Consolata Missionaries said his sudden death had brought profound sorrow to the congregation, his family, parishioners, friends and all who knew him.
“His sudden departure has caused deep sorrow among the Consolata Missionaries worldwide, his family, the Christian community of Kapeeka Parish, his friends and all who knew him. His priestly life remains a testament to missionary commitment, pastoral charity and fidelity to the proclamation of the Gospel.”

The congregation added that although Fr. Chrispine Okello had served at Kapeeka Parish for only a few months, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to the pastoral care of the faithful.
The Consolata Missionaries in Venezuela also paid tribute to the late priest, thanking him for his years of dedicated missionary service.
“We remember and thank with deep love the journey of our dear Father Chrispine, who gave his life to the service of the Gospel on Venezuelan soil.”
They recalled his ministry in Carapita, Tucupita and Barlovento, saying he left behind a legacy of fraternity, compassion and missionary dedication.
Funeral rites began on Friday, July 17, with a post-mortem Holy Mass and a vigil at Our Lady Consolata Kapeeka Parish in Uganda.
His body will later be transported to Kenya for funeral services, including a vigil at St. Joseph’s Ugunja Parish in the Kisumu Archdiocese and ceremonies at his family home in Uradi, Siaya County.
The cortege will then proceed to St. Joseph Allamano Formation Centre in Nyeri before his burial on Wednesday, July 22, at the Mathari Cemetery for Consolata Missionaries under the Nyeri Archdiocese.
The congregation said Fr. Okello’s life and ministry embodied the missionary spirit of Saint Joseph Allamano, leaving behind a legacy of faith, humility and service to some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.
