An ally of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was hospitalized after the launch of the Kiambaa Technical Training Institute in Kiambu turned chaotic on Sunday, June 10,2024.
Trouble started after a section of Members of Parliament (MPs) from the region campaigned against Gachagua’s one man one vote one shilling agenda, terming it as selfish politics, while another faction retaliated.

“I was hit on the ribs and head. I was knocked down and kicked, and I was stepped on while I was on the ground,” he said.
In videos of the scene, Mwaura is seen being roughed up and beaten in the presence of National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and ten other MPs from Kiambu County.

MPs Attack Gachagua
Ichung’wah led the MPs in opposing the formula and accused Gachagua of promoting tribalistic politics.
“If someone has failed in his work, he should not take us back to tribal politics so that he can use the people to benefit himself.
We will not allow you; we will not succumb to blackmail and your dictatorial tendency. Our people are firmly behind us,” Ichung’wah said.
Instead, the Kikuyu MP said leaders should advocate for a formula that will benefit all Kenyans and promote development in all the counties.

Kabete MP James Wamacukuru said the region is firmly behind President William Ruto, who has given Kikuyus a majority of the Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and even parastatal CEOs.
EALA MP Maina Karobia said, “Kikuyus are in all parts of the country, and therefore, while talking about revenue distribution, let us remember that there are Kikuyus in Lamu, Kakamega, and even in Laikipia.”
The debate over the revenue sharing formula continues to draw sharp and diverse views from leaders across the country, particularly in central Kenya.

Kindiki’s Warning
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has called out Gachagua, warning him about dividing the country along tribal lines.
Speaking on June 10, Kindiki urged the DP to adopt a more unifying tone, arguing that counties in arid and semi-arid areas are the ones in dire need of resources to bring them on par with their peers.
“We cannot encourage a situation where we start discriminating against any part of our country. Each of the 47 counties is an important component of the republic,” he said.
However, a section of leaders from Murang’a County, led by Maragwa lawmaker Mary Wamaua, have vowed to support Gachagua and the revenue sharing formula.
