Gilda Odera Appointed SRC Vice Chair

Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) President, Dr. Gilda Odera has been appointed the new Vice Chairperson of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).

Odera was appointed by the New SRC Chairperson Sammy Chepkwony on Friday, January 31.

“Pursuant to Article 250 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, the Chairperson and Members of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) appointed Dr. Gilda Odera as the Vice Chairperson of SRC,’ read the notice in part.

“The Commission congratulates Dr. Odera on her appointment as the Vice Chairperson of SRC and wishes her success as she undertakes her roles.”

Gilda Odera Appointed SRC Vice Chair

Prior to her current role, Dr. Odera served as the first female National President of the Federation of Kenya Employers.

She was appointed in May 2023 to lead the employer’s body for two years and previously served as FKE’s Vice President. Dr Odera has had a notable career across various roles focused on public policy, governance, business management, and leadership.

Odera began her career as the Commercial Director at Marketing Support Services Ltd from January 1990 to April 2002.

She was also the founding Chairperson at the Kenya Business Process Outsourcing Association from January 2007 to June 2010.

The SRC Vice chairperson played a crucial role in advising the government on ICT policy and fostering partnerships that boosted Kenya’s ICT sector.

She later served as the Managing Director at Skyweb Technologies Ltd from June 2002 to December 2011, leading a team of over 100 employees in the internet service provision sector.

Professional Caree of Odera

Odera served as the Chairperson of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) Working Group at the Office of the Prime Minister, Kenya, from December 2009 to April 2013.

The FKE president later served as a Council Member at the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) from June 2016 to June 2019.

In the public sector, Gilda Odera contributed significantly as a Board Member at the Public Procurement Administrative Review Board from August 2013 to August 2019.

From June to December 2019, she was a Health Financing Reforms Expert Panel Member, providing valuable input on health financing reforms through the National Health Insurance Fund to the Ministry of Health.

In addition, Odera served as a Council Member at the Universities Funds Board from June 2019 to June 2022, and a Board Member at the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) from August 2020 to August 2024.

Since February 2013, she has been the Lead Consultant at AAM Ltd, advising organizations on strategic policy development, governance, entrepreneurship, and public speaking, providing them with the opportunity to influence numerous public and private sector policies.

Education

Odera holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Arts in Leading Innovation and Change from the University of York St. John in the United Kingdom.

The Vice Chair also earned a PhD in Public Policy and Administration, specializing in Leadership and Management from Walden University.

She has cumulative work experience of more than 30 years serving in senior management as chief executive and a board director.
