A Ugandan man, identified as Benjamin Agaba, has set himself on fire near the entrance of the Uganda Parliament in Kampala.
According to reports, Agaba set himself ablaze after failing to receive support from President Yoweri Museveni’s party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Agaba alleges that his property was vandalized by National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters which is led by Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.
He added that his father was left homeless due to their political affiliation and had sought help at the party offices for a year without any assistance.

Additionally, Agaba said he had been seeking help from NRM offices for a year but got no assistance.
“I have been seeking help from the party offices for over a year now, but no one has come to my aid,” Agaba said.
“I felt like I had no other option but to take drastic action to draw attention to my plight.”

Eyewitnesses say Agaba, a member of the ruling NRM party, was seen dousing himself with petrol before igniting the flames.
In the footage seen by The Kenya Times, the man dressed in a yellow trouser is seen lying down with parts of his body on fire.
Police officers at the scene quickly intervened, and the victim was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
The police could be seen pouring water on his body using buckets.
The NRM party is yet to respond to the claims as Agaba who sustained burns injuries receives treatment.

Another fire incident in Uganda
In another incident, PostBank Uganda has issued a statement after a fire incident at a building that neighbors the Bank’s Kasese Branch.
The Bank said all its staff, customers, and all bank items have been safely evacuated from the building as a precautionary measure.
PostBank said the Uganda Police, Fire Brigade, and the responsible authorities are working to ensure that the situation is handled.
“In a bid to ensure the safety of our staff, customers, and the community where we serve, banking operations have been put on hold until the situation is resolved,” reads part of the statement.
Additionally, the Bank said normal branch operations will resume once this has been settled.
In the meantime, it has encouraged all the customers to use its alternate banking channels; PostApp, PostMobile, PostOnline, and WendiAgents to transact.
“We commit to serving our customers and operating in a conducive environment; therefore, we assure our different stakeholders that this situation has been managed promptly in cooperation with the responsible authorities,” the Bank said.
The Bank thanked the Uganda Police, Fire Brigade, and all authorities for the timely response to ensure that the fire was averted in time to control its spread.
