Moses Wekesa is the newly appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).

The KAA Board announced the appointment of Moses Wekesa on April 14, following a competitive recruitment process that attracted experienced professionals from across the sector.

Moses was selected to lead KAA’s long-term aviation development agenda, with a clear focus on improving efficiency, modernizing infrastructure, and expanding airport capacity across Kenya.

Wekesa’s mandate will include strengthening Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to better serve as a regional and continental aviation hub, supporting trade, tourism, and economic growth.

Moses Wekesa Career Background

According to KAA, Moses Wekesa is an experienced professional with more than 17 years of hands-on experience delivering large infrastructure projects and helping organizations grow across sectors.

Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) — Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer

  • Currently heads the authority responsible for the management, operation, and development of public airports and airstrips across Kenya.
  • Provides strategic leadership focused on infrastructure improvement, operational efficiency, and long-term planning for the aviation sector.

Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) — Business Development Director

  • Previously served as Business Development Director at KenGen.
  • Played an important role in steering business growth strategies and expanding the company’s commercial and project portfolio.
  • Was involved in geothermal energy development, supporting the delivery of key power generation projects, including work at the Olkaria V Geothermal Power Plant.

“Before joining KenGen, Moses Wekesa gained wide international experience, working on major infrastructure and development projects in Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and Africa.”

Educational Background

Moses Wekesa has a strong educational background that combines engineering skills with training in finance and project management.

Wekesa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nairobi.

He also has postgraduate qualifications in finance, appraisal, and project planning from the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom.

Wekesa’s Key Achievements

During his time at KenGen, Moses Wekesa was part of the leadership team the developed and commissioned the Olkaria V Geothermal Power Plant, a 165.4-megawatt facility, where he managed technical work, including the installation of generators and steam systems.

He also contributed to KenGen’s regional expansion by participating in geothermal energy project tenders in countries such as Ethiopia.

In addition, he has successfully managed and delivered large, high-value infrastructure projects across the world, demonstrating a strong ability to coordinate and execute complex international initiatives.
